On a recent project we had to replace an air conditioner unit in a downtown Delray Beach condo. We had good luck before with Climate Control Services. However, this time they really did a poor job.
While they were polite and accommodated my schedule, the workmanship was definitely sub-standard.
First Issue: The air handler was set about 1 inch too far back on the mounting frame. This caused the filter access door to not open fully making it impossible to ever change an air filter. Their fix was to remove the sealing gasket so that the door would open enough the change a filter. However, this created a direct air leak to the main coil. Not a good installation for a new unit. They have no further fix for this problem.
Second Issue: Copper refrigerant pipe was installed directly rubbing on the iron mounting frame. That's a recipe for creating a leak. The fix was to just push it away by hand.
Third Issue: The refrigerant line inside was also rubbing directly against a metal edge. The fix was to push it and wrap it with a rubber tape.
Fourth Issue: Condensate drain line was not replaced. Typically, they are when the air handler is replaced. Within a couple months the line plugged up. CCS made 2 service calls to clear the line but never resolved the underlying issue. It continued to plug, and shut down the A/C multiple times. After multiple calls to the service manager, they had no idea on what to do about it.
I hired another service company, at my expense, and they immediately discovered that the condensate line was completely, and obviously plugged. They advised me that it would be standard practice to replace that during a new install.
That would have saved a lot of service calls.
In addition to many hours without a working A/C and multiple service calls, I had to pay another company to fix their installation.
